The CEO of Tumblr's current owner Automattic, Matt Mullenweg, says "the casually porn-friendly era of the early internet is currently impossible.”
Tumblr was a very porn-friendly platform before Yahoo! bought it for $1.1 Billion in 2013. They immediately shut down all adult content and started losing users and ad dollars. Verizon bought Tumblr in 2017 and continued the trend, buckling down even more. Automattic bought Tumblr in 2019 for next to nothing -- reportedly around $3 million and still have no plans to bring back the porn, despite internet rumors.
